The Can Am Baker Doubles Grand Final was a shootout, and the only team left standing was the powerhouse team of Eddie Grace and Bob Rozycki as they beat Nick Wissinger and Tony Lupo 226-214 in the title match. The format is a little different for the Grand Finals. There are 10 games of qualifying, followed by the normal elimination rounds. We eliminate teams until we're down to the final 5. Then, a PBA stepladder format is used.
The first match in the stepladder saw Jeff Roche and Nick Kokenos beating Craig Nidiffer and Seby Silvestri 248-213. Roche and Kokenos were then steamrolled by Nick Wissinger and Tony Lupo 266-194. Scores cooled off the next match, as Wissinger and Lupo beat Brad Draka and Jason Pretari 216-172.
The final match was close, but Grace and Rozycki came through in the end to win the title and the guaranteed 1st place prize of $2,000, beating Wissinger and Lupo 226-214. Wissinger and Lupo settled for 2nd and $1,000.
Grace and Rozycki led the qualifying with an amazing 2487 ten game total. The 21 team field averaged 226 for the 10 game qualifying round.
Thank you for participating in our tournaments this year. We look forward to see in October when the Can Am Baker Doubles begins another exciting season. Have a great summer. |
